Common Misconceptions and My Philosophies

“I’m working out and doing everything right, but I’m still not meeting my fitness goals. It must be genetics.”

While genetics do play a role in fitness and health, they’re often not the limiting factor. Many people overlook key aspects of their exercise program. Are you keeping in mind that fatigue does not mean effectiveness? You may be fatiguing yourself without maximizing the benefit of your exercises.
Are your repetitions done with quality and intent, focusing on when to stretch, when to squeeze, when to speed up, when to slow down, etc.?
With the right guidance, you can see your effort turn into results.

“Pain or past injuries stop me from working out.”

That’s exactly where I come in.
My background as a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (a distinction held by only 6% of PTs) deeply informs how I approach personal training. I’ll find safe, effective ways for you to stay active while respecting your body’s needs. Movement can be your ally, even after injury.

“I’m too old to start working out.”

Age isn’t a reason to stop; it’s the reason to start. As we age, movement becomes even more essential for preserving strength, balance, bone density, and independence.

“I’m too busy to work out.”

Totally fair. That’s why I come to you, with the equipment and a plan.

“I can just watch YouTube videos or use an app.”

Will it adjust when your back’s tight or your balance is off? Will it spot-check your form, give feedback, and catch red flags? Will it modify sets and repetitions based on your response, not just arbitrary “3 sets of 10”? Will it push you to the point of adaptation? Will it modify workouts when needed? Will it make sure you’re getting a full stretch and maximizing every repetition?

“My kid is too young for strength training.”

Youth overuse injuries are more common than ever.
We don’t hand kids heavy weights; we teach them how to move well. That means proper stretching, coordination, body control, and age-appropriate resistance to build durability and confidence. Smart strength training early on lays the foundation for a healthier, more injury-resistant athlete.

“Exercise just isn’t fun for me.”

Valid feeling! I believe you just haven’t found the right kind of exercise yet. When exercise isn’t enjoyable, it’s hard to stick with. Enjoyment creates consistency, and consistency leads to results. With my experience in both personal training and physical therapy, I’m confident we can find a form of movement you do enjoy. Whether it’s strength work, movement games, balance challenges, or something completely outside the box.
